Mahindra and Mahindra Limited (M&M) is an Indian multi-national company engaged in the manufacture of different kinds of automobiles. As early as in 1947 they had their first vehicle the Willys Jeep assembled and sold in India. Many of their vehicles are also exported.
M&M is supposed to be a specialist in utility vehicles. Mahindra Scorpio is their most sold out utility model introduced in 2002. This 7 seater had a face lift in 2008. This vehicle has 15 versions including the 6 speed auto drive variant VLX 4WD Airbag AT BS-IV and Mahindra Scorpio Priced from Rupees 7.91 to 12.45 lakhs. The Mahindra Thar launched in 2010 is an affordable SUV with soft removable top and has three diesel variants priced between Rupees 4.8 and 7.35 lakhs. This 3760mm long 7 seater gives a mileage of 18.06 kmpl with a 2523 cc engine.
The Mahindras has also entered the hatchback/sedan market with the Verito and the Verito Vibe. The three variants of the Verito have petrol and diesel models priced from Rupees 5.43 to 7.76 lakhs. The Verito Vibe launched in 2013 is a compact diesel sedan with a mileage of 20.0 kmpl. Mahindra e20 is an eco-friendly city car priced around Rupees 5.8 lakhs with a 25 HP electric motor.
The Bolero and the Xylo are two successful MUVs from Mahindras. The Bolero launched in 2006 has 14 versions with a fuel efficiency of 15.9 kmpl. The latest version SLX launched in 2013 has many safety and comfort features and is priced around Rupees 7.78 lakhs. The Xylo launched in February 2012 has 9 variants. The top variants have AC systems, 2 DIN music systems with FM radio and Bluetooth connectivity and a touch screen cruise control.
Mahindra Quanto is an SUV launched in 2012 with 4 diesel versions. This seven seater gives a fantastic mileage of 17.1 kmpl. The Mahindra XUV 500 launched in 2011 comes in 4 versions priced between Rupees 10.70 and 14.48 lakhs with the top version having a cruise control, a manual AC, a 3 DIN music system with 6 speakers and FM radio and Bluetooth connectivity. The XUV 500 is 4585 mm long with a ground clearance of 200 mm. This 7 seater gives a mileage of 15.1 kmpl with a 2.2 litre engine.
Most of the Mahindra vehicles have the double wish-bone type independent suspension at the front and the multi link coil spring system at the rear, best suited for the Indian roads. The new Quanto Autoshift and the Scorpio are expected in 2014 and the S101 SUV in 2015. With 5 of their models fairing well the M&M is expected to consolidate their position in the Utility vehicle segment.
